Summary on Grant Application Form |
In all projected scenarios of fuel mix for power plant, fossil fuels will be dominant for at least the next 25 years. The UK Government is committed to stimulating the development and deployment of low carbon energy resources. This project is aimed at the minimisation of CO2 emissions from fossil fuel plant by concentrating on key technologies of CO2 separation and hydrogen combustion, for both coal gasification and natural gas fuelled plant. These two key development areas have to be considered in an integrated way to produce a reliable, efficient and cost effective power plant meeting all projected emissions legislation. Novel aspects of the project include: - the development of a zero dilution gas turbine option (ie no nitrogen or steam/water addition to the syngas/hydrogen for emissions control) - the assessment and development of pre-combustion CO2 separation based on membrane or alternative physical solvents.
