Determining the biological function of proteins is one of the major tasks in molecular biology. This project is aimed at the development of new methods for comparison of protein/RNA structures which could improve in-silico prediction of protein functions.The novelty of proposed research lies in the fact that we plan to introduce in structure comparison methods (more specifically the development of methods that use graph-based representations for structures), and some new elements (scoring matrices, evolutionary models) which are currently used (and considered to be essential) only in the context of sequence comparisons. Since it is widely accepted that structure is much more informative than the sequence for the understanding of the function of a protein, it is expected that the proposed research will be a step towards increased prediction accuracy.
