|
Embracing complexity is a key issue in Designing for the 21st century: designed products can be complex; design processes can be complex; the social and economic context of design is complex; and the design process itself can be complex. Understanding complexity is essential to the competitive advantage of UK industry and sustained wealth creation. Our forum will bring together design researchers already aware of the challenge of embracing complexity in design, experts in the new science of complex systems, and designer researchers wanting to learn more about the impact that complexity science will have on design in the 21st Century. Our cluster will run workshops investigating complexity and design, and hold exhibitions to communicate our findings in innovative ways. We will also disseminate through design journals. The cluster will be supported by a robust web portal enabling e-conferencing, e-seminars, and e-archiving. The cluster will end with a Festival of Complexity, Art, and Design.
