Summary on Grant Application Form |
Chips will Relish will build on the demonstrated success of the PPA project Chips for Everyone. There are three main objectives in the project;1. Develop new interactive and flexible formats for successful Semiconductor technology workshops2. Deliver workshops to about 10,000 schools pupils and public audiences across Scotland in two years3. Disseminate the workshops across the UK through established Science communication networks.Semiconductor technology affects the daily lives of evey person in modern western society. In the UK today, nearly 50 million silicon chips are carried about in mobile phones and a much larger number in devices from cars and domestic appliances to medial instruments and international commumication systems. Yet most people know little about the manufacture and operation of the tiny but powerful electronic devices that they have come to rely on so much.During the past 3 years, Chips for Everyone has designed, developed and delivered activities in semiconductor technology to over 7000 people ranging from the very young to the very old. We have developed good practise and partnerships in delivery of schools and public events. We now wish to extend the scope and range of activities to secondary school children across Scotland and also at national and local public events. Additional interactive activities will be added to the current portfolio to provide a comprehensive insight into semiconductor technology and applications. For this project our target audience is 10,000 indviiduals over the 3 year period. We will also market workshops across the UK to appropriate organisations.
