|
The main aim of this proposal is to establish a research link between UK and Japan on Ambient Intelligence. Ambient Intelligence (usually abbreviated as AmI) is a new research field that promotes the advancement of science and technology to build smart environments. AmI systems usually include an invisible network of sensors and intelligent user interfaces to analyse sensor data and feed back useful information to the user to improve their quality of life. AmI systems use advanced research methods from the fields of Computer Vision, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Europe has begun to make progress in this field and we believe that a programme of collaboration between the UK and Japan (given the latter's advanced technological state in sensors and robotics) will be of significant benefit for the UK and play an important role in what will become a highly pervasive technological area.The British applicants, members of the Digital Imaging Research Centre at Kingston University, will collaborate with three Japanese research teams over a period of three years. The collaboration will design and implement intelligent software as an Ambient Intelligence solution to design advanced and innovative human-machine interfaces.
