Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal brings together an interdisciplinary team in the University of Cambridge this is part of a new Physics in Medicine initiative. We will integrate two different medical imaging systems, Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, into a single instrument. This will allow both types of measurement to be made simultaneously hence allowing us to solve previously intractable science problems. This opens the possibility of monitoring rapidly evolving processes in medicine and physical science, and leads to improved resolution, sensitivity and ability to diagnose disease. Combining high resolution PET and MR scanners is technically demanding, and has not been done before.
