Many decision problems are characterised by multiple criteria of both a quantitative and qualitative nature. Decision information could be random, incomplete and vague, which may be caused due to the decision maker's inability to provide precise judgments, a lack of information, or ambiguous meanings in criteria and assessments. Conflicting criteria and uncertain information create complexity in preference modelling and decision analysis. From our literature reviews and discussions at academic conferences and with practitioners, it is evident that dealing with such decision problems under uncertainty continues to pose a significant challenge and has attracted much attention in recent years.This project is proposed to investigate theoretical issues in the above area and is divided into three work packages. The first one is to investigate evidential reasoning based preference programming models and algorithms to handle approximate value judgements represented by intervals or subjective distributions. The second work package is to explore a gradient projection based interactive process for performance analysis by integrating multiple objective optimisation with data envelopment analysis. The third work package is to study theoretical issues related to the consistency and complexity of the gradient projection based interactive process in eliciting preference information and in generating the most preferred solutions.
