Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Framework 6 SINANO Network of Excellence was submitted to the European Commission last year and received nearly maximum points in peer review and as a result, the project has been fully funded (as submitted), with a start date of January 1st 2004. The SINANO project will primarily provide funds for networking and research fellow salaries, with a very limited budget for additional costs in device implementation. The participating partners are also providing additional staff effort by allocating research students to the project. This proposal requests access to the EPSRC Silicon Fabrication Facility (Innos) for the UK partners. This will provide the UK members of the SINANO project with the crucial ability to fabricate devices, which will have huge visibility on the European stage, and hence will dramatically enhance the impact the UK team can make on the European and world research scenes. The project represents excellent value for money as staff and travel costs are already covered by the European Commission. The resulting alignment of National and European research programmes will create a unified research activity with a large critical mass and a high international impact.
