Summary on Grant Application Form |
The term nanoparticles refers to matter in the form of very tiny solid particles and liquid droplets. The sizes of such particles are generally only a few nanometres where a nanometre is a millionth of a millimetre. Such particles are increasingly finding applications in industrial processes and products because a small amount has a very large amount of surface associated with it. However, the disadvantage is that nanoparticles appear to be especially hazardous for human health when used in consumer products or released in the environment or the factory atmosphere. This project is to set up a network of people conducting research on both the science and applications of nanoparticles and on the environmental and medical effects so that they benefit from one another's knowledge and expertise. The outcome should be a better knowledge of nanoparticle effects and an improved protection of the public from any ill effects
