Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is concerned with establishing a high performance dynamometer facility to support research activities being undertaken in the Electrical Machines and Drives Group at the University of Sheffield on high torque electrical machines and drives, and associated technologies. The dynamometer facility will be capable of testing electrical machines and drive systems with torques up to 2800Nm and power ratings up to WOW. This will enable the Group to pursue experimental research spanning several important market sectors, notably for automotive, aerospace and marine applications. A key feature will be the ability to dynamically test machine systems under representative operational conditions, e.g. replicate transient loads imposed by an aircraft flight control surface or a fault condition in an embedded aero-engine generator.
