|
This proposal requests funds in support of student attendance at the conference Physics. 100 years after Einstein The conference celebrates the International year of Physics in 2005; Einstein Year in Britain and Ireland. The scientific content is centred on emerging physics in four broad themes, cutting across traditional disciplines. There will be seven invited plenary lectures, =100 invited oral presentations aligned with the themes. and contributed poster sessions Each theme is run in parallel over all four days. The four themes are.Relativity and CosmologyQuantum PhysicsLight and Matter Physics in BiologyWith an anticipated attendance of over 500 researchers it will be held 10-14 April 2005 at the University of Warwick. The Institute of Physics is supporting this conference both in terms of expert organisation and financially (50.000 - 100.000).We believe that the broad scope of this conference, cutting across traditional disciplines coupled with speakers of the highest scientific quality. makes this an ideal event to benefit the broad training of research students in keeping with the objectives of the EPSRC. Consequently, we are requesting bursary support for research students to attend the full conference and to present posters on their own research.The cost of student registration (120) and accommodation for the duration of the conference (4x 45) is 300. Although hoping to attract upwards of 150 research students we recognise that in most university research groups there are many demands on tight travel funds. We would like to offer up to 50 bursaries funded by the EPSRC to cover the cost of students presenting posters at the conference for those who are unable to source these cost from other sources. This would require a total commitment of 15.000.
