Summary on Grant Application Form
The workshop aims to provide an international forum for research on theoretical problems in geometric dynamics with singularities and related problems. It will in particular address problems where standard methods of hyperbolic dynamics fail to be applicable. It also aims to encourage a two-way dialogue between theoreticians and those working on applications where such maps arise, for example in signal processing. One particular example of geometric dynamics with singularities are maps called piecewise isometries. There is a growing interest of the pure mathematics community in such maps, although in fact engineers have for some time been interested in investigating several problems where they arise.
