Summary on Grant Application Form |
A system for MR imaging during MRI guided surgery has been developed which can combine local MR imaging using an interventional MR coil with endoscopic imaging and whole-body MR. The MR local coil is mounted on an endoscope. Tracking coils are mounted on the MR coil to enable alignment of images and produce a 3D image from a stack of 2D images. The coil works well but is not currently patient compatible. The project is to re-build the device so it can be used clinically to image a small series of patients. This will involve remounting the tracking coils so they are detacheably placed in the endoscope working channel, and sleeving the imaging coil to form a biocompatible barrier, and make the external surface smooth.Validation tests will be perfomed on the modified device prior to clinical use.
