Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project focuses on the commercialisation of a Simulation Toolkit that reproduces the symptoms of physical impairments that older and disabled people may experience. The Toolkit is to be used by decisionmakers, designers, design educators and design students as a method of assessing product and service accessibility. It allows the wearer to experience in a practical and low cost manner a wide range of problems faced by users with physical impairments - leading to more inclusive product and service design. The Follow-on fund will provide the necessary financial support for the refinement of the Toolkit and its evaluation by design practitioners. In addition, it will allow the development of a business proposition that can be presented to prospective manufactures and distributors. The toolkit has already generated significant interest with local designers - there is now a need to ensure that it can be made available to the wider design and design education communities.
