Currently, one in four pupils stop studying physics between AS and A level. This project aims to help reduce this drop out rate, by developing state of the art learning resources for use at AS/A level physics. The project will tap into the pupil's natural interest in music to make the materials relevant to their everyday experiences. Students and teachers will be able to access acoustic and audio-related web demonstrations and experiments to which they would not normally have access. The materials will not only support the ASIA level syllabi, but will lead on to examples of exciting and interesting applications which the student might expect to meet at university and industry. The material will be delivered via a website and will consist of audio, video, interactive animations, text, graphics, and formative and summative quizzes. The materials will be developed in collaboration with teachers and students to suit the normal teaching pedagogies used at AS/A level. A mail shot to 250 schools will publicise the work and will include an earcatching 'gimmick' to make the mail shot more likely to be noticed and used. This is an extension of a recently completed PPA grant which developed key stage 4 materials.
