Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will work with the four schools in the first phase of Leicester's Building Schools for the Future programme. Pupils, teachers and governors will engage with the science, engineering and technology available to help achieve a sustainable school. Visits to low energy buildings, workshops with low building energy experts and classroom discussions will be used to increase the knowledge, awareness and experience of a more sustainable school community. The pupils, teachers and governors will then engage with both local and national policy makers at a further workshop. They will again address the requirements for a more sustainable school. The focus will be on minimising energy consumption and maximising renewable energy technologies but will also include materials, travel to school and the use of the school building as an educational resource. It would therefore address both the technical and non-technical issues about integrating education for sustainable development into new schools. The end result will be pupils, teachers and governors who are better informed about the multiple benefits of a more sustainable school.
