Describing our universe on the smallest possible length scales, and at the highest possible energies, has long been the goal of theoretical physics.
In the past, this meant building increasingly large colliders underground to smash particles together at ever greater speeds. But now, there is a new high energy frontier.
The very early universe was so hot and dense that particles experienced energies far greater than we could ever make here on Earth.
Measuring signals from this early time in the history of the universe can teach us important lessons about physics in extreme conditions.
However, these signals are difficult for us to measure and interpret today because the rapid expansion of the early universe has diluted them.
This project will give us a way to reconstruct some of the valuable information from the high-energy early universe hidden in the sky we see today.
