Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research to be conducted within the Fellowships is directed towards engineering applications of high pulse repetition rate (5-50 kHz visible and uv lasers). Such applications include micromachining, particle/flow visualisation, high speed imaging, and laser induced fluorescence detection of combustion species. The aim of the project is to build on the applicant's established expertise in the development and engineering applications of high pulse repetition rata lasers to develop integrated laser systems for engineering applications. This will involve both maintaining an existing successful programme of strategic laser developmental research, and fostering new and existing collaborative links to engineering departments and industry within the UK and EC. The aim is therefore to provide the laser expertise and support for the development of new laser based technologies which would not otherwise be possible within many organisations. Existing successful programmes already undertaken by the applicant have already demonstrated that collaboration between laser experts and industrial and engineering users leads to the development of new techniques and processes which would not have been developed by either party working alone.
