Summary on Grant Application Form |
We present a density functional theory for superconductors and introduce a phenomenological contribution to the exchange correlation potentials, which depends on anomalous pairing amplitudes. Furthermore we develop a multiple scattering approach for solving the corresponding Kohn-Sham-Bogoliubov de Gennes (KSBG) equations self-consistently. We argue that the solutions of such phenomenological equations can throw light on the nature of pairing in the new high temperature superconductors. To illustrate the powers of the approach we study explicitly the quasi-particle spectra and the wave vector dependence of superconducting gap function k for a one-dimensional model. This model has been chosen so that its numerical solution display most features of three dimensional calculations.
