To determine the mechanisms of failure in adhesive joints. To derive methods of predicting the strength of adhesive joints based on the physical mechanisms of failure. To devise test methods for deriving the adhesive properties required to predict the strength of joints. To formulate our scientific strength criteria in such a way as to be useful in practical engineering design.
