The principal aim is to grow and characterise new nanometre magnetic films with potentially important applications in the area of robotics, communications and information technology. To achieve these aims, a growth system will be specially designed and will incorporate novel medium energy ion scattering surface analysis equipment which will enable not only the surface structure to be determined but also compositional information.
