Summary on Grant Application Form |
To develop accurate analyses of flared slot and flared slotline antennas for broadband applications. This is to include the analysis of the discontinuities occurring between the antenna and its feed. The aim of the work is to improve the analysis accuracy, and hence reduce the design time and cost, for these broadband antennas.Progress: The Research Officer for this grant was appointed on 01.03.93. Initial theoretical investigations of the flared slot have been undertaken using transmission line approximations, the Spectal Domain technique and the Finite Difference Time Domain technique. In addition, experimental measurements have also been performed.Initial results and comparisons for simple tapered slot antennas have been published at an IEEE Workshop, and further developments will be presented at ICAP '95.The above work on the simple taper, and on flared slot antennas, has shown that the excitation of the antenna at the feed point is quite critical. This affects input match, but more importantly, can have a very significant, if not dominant, effect on the radiation pattern. Improved methods of feeding the antenna are under investigation.
