Switched current techniques allow integration of high performance analogue circuits on digital CMOS technology. The technique is not however, mature, and accessible design tools do not exist. This project sets out to: 1. Develop Switched Current circuit techniques and design procedures.2. Develop special CAD tools for their design by non-specialists.3. Integrate these tools into the CADENCE ARTIST CAD suite. Progress:This project has progressed very well. The second test chip has been processed, which contains high performance video bandwidth filters, some designed entirely automatically through to layout. The chip also contains novel video bandwidth A/D converters with interfaces compatible with the filter path. Almost all circuits are fully functional with good performance; filter sample rates of well over l00MHz have been demonstrated. The CAD system is now at a point of limited usability from filter prototype through to layout. Considerable effort has gone into the automatic generation of parameterised integrators for filter designs. Simulators optimised for switched current work are being integrated into the main Analogue Artist suite, and have most functions already usable. Most of the fundamental studies have now been successfully undertaken, and the remainder of the project will see the design system completed and tested with a final sub-micron test chip.Collaborative Project Partners :Philips Semiconductors; CADENCE UK
