Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme will apply emerging classification techniques, using artificial neural networks, to the automatic surveillance of complex electro-mechanical plant. Through the use of a multi parameter approach it is believed that the monitoring and operational performance can be more closely linked to maintenance management procedures. This will be achieved by an identification and extension of monitoring techniques, through the use of parallel knowledge representation techniques, and by improved ways of capturing knowledge of plant condition. The proposed methodology will be tested to prototype level on a laboratory test bed, and will lead to improved reliability and safety, and a great ability to predict and schedule maintenance activities.
