Summary on Grant Application Form |
To research and develop an adaptive assembly system for flexible packages moving at high speed. The system will offer significant advances in speed and reliability of assembly. The work hinges on the development of an adaptive handling system utilising air flotation and pulsed air jets for orientation. The packages thus avoid damage due to contact handling and are consistently placed for the mechanical gripper system. Random orientation is sensed by a vision system (provided by work at Birmingham University) and this information is fed to controllers driving the actuators and thus effecting orientation.
