Summary on Grant Application Form |
The programme sets out to synthesise novel redox-gated channel forming peptides based on the introduction of the ferrocene moiety. These peptides will be incorporated into lipid bilayers and the channel gating properties will be investigated. the effects of varying the oxidation state of the ferrocene moiety of the peptides on channel properties will be measured. The channels will be characterised in terms of conductance, open times and ion selectivity. These peptides may provide novel switching systems in which changes in the redox state of the membrane environment can be translated into electrical signals.
