Summary on Grant Application Form |
Molecules capable of photochemical and field induced isomerisation will be synthesised. A redox centre close to the photoactive part of the molecule will be included for improving field assisted isomerisation kinetics. Also, terminal thiol groups will be included to allow self- assembly of the photoactive film on top of a waveguide based Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) device. The isomerisation reaction will be used as a photochemical and field assisted molecular switch, based on the stringent refractive index requirements for maintaining or achieving plasmon resonance.
