We plan to make (a) systematic changes to the matrix chemistry and the porosity of hydrogels (Aston), to undertake (b) at Cardiff, fundamental cell-substrate interaction studies using chondrocytes and to investigate in conjunction with Leeds (c) the relationship of structure to frictional properties.
