Summary on Grant Application Form
This research programme will develop the theory and implementation techniques for a novel Robust Adaptive Controller (RAC) for high performance AC machine drives. it is envisaged that this RAC will provide self-adaptive (or self-tuning) characteristics irrespective of parameter variations, external disturbances and system non-linearities. It will allow off the shelf induction motors to be optimally controlled without prior knowledge of motor parameters, power-up initialisation tests, or motor shaft feedback. These characteristics are recognised by Industry as highly desirable for future generations of high performance AC drives.
