Assessing the scope and potential of using QMF-based adaptive beamforming in multipath cancellation.Comparison with the FFT based methods and the full band adaptive beamformer with respect to performance of cancellation and computational complexity.Progress:The results achieved so far are as follows:The development of the first Direction of Arrival-based adaptive beamforming method that can cancel the interference signals even if they are highly correlated with the desired signal. All existing methods based on Direction of Arrival (DOA) information have poor cancellation performance when signals are highly correlated such as those encountered in a multipath channel. A new approach for estimating the DOA of wideband signals based on time-frequency analysis has also been developed. The performance of existing DOA estimation methods deteriorates considerably when dealing with wideband signals such as those used in mobile communications. The use of QMF-based adaptive beamforming has been found to improve the cancellation performance, however a 32-48 tap QMF filter is required for each element to achieve this. Currently, work is focusing on ways of decreasing the computational complexity of the QMF-based approach. Five papers have been published/presented in Journals, International Conferences and Colloquium on the results obtained from the work carried out so far.
