Summary on Grant Application Form
1. To develop and validate a computational model for the mean and fluctuating wind loads on offshore structures. 2. To obtain accurate simulations for the sea based boundary layer. 3. To conduct various parametric studies in order to quantify benefits and limitations of current CFD methods for offshore applications (1) Literature survey. (2) To extend the three dimensional model for unstructured grids, and to verify it against data for turbulent flows around surface mounted bluff bodies. (3) To introduce modifications for fluctuating wind loads and to verifity the complete model. (4) To investigate alternative turbulence models and to assess their suitability to offshore applications. (5) To conduct atmospheric boundary layer simulations and to conduct a database for computed profiles. (6) To assess the complete model against data from full scale (onshore and offshore) structures. (7) To conduct parametric studies for the effects of layout of on deck structures and proximity of other platforms.
