(i) to obtain a better understanding of the perception of time-varying vibrotactile stimuli with a view to optimising information transfer rate in sensory substitution devices; (ii) to investigate the use of bandwidth-limited vibrotactile stimuli; (iii) to apply the results from (i) and (ii) in the context of tactile aids for the hearing impaired.
