Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the project is to build on existing micromagnetic expertise of the applicant and to develop a micromagnetic model capable of detailed comparison with experimental data. The model will take into account interlayer interactions both exchange and magnetostatic, and will include the effects of thermal agitation. It is proposed to study the bulk magnetic properties of multilayers, especially the irreversible magnetic behaviour. The ac erased state will be investigated in detail with special emphasis on the calculation of MFM and DPC images and with the aim of determining correlation lengths arising from interaction effects. Calculations of the effects of thermal agitation will be made in order to determine the activation volume characteristic of magnetisation reversal.
