Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim is to gain a fundamental understanding of polymer molecular characteristics on craze structure and craze dynamics in glassy polymers. The approach will be to: synthesise well tailored and characterised poly(methyl methacrylate)s; examine craze development in small-scale samples subjected to an imposed extensional stress by light scattering microscopic and scanning electron microscopy; interpret the results using mesoscopic theories of stress distribution and other methods.
