Summary on Grant Application Form
To investigate the use of parallel Genetic Algorithms (Gas) in manufacturing applications. Advanced GA techniques are to be developed in the areas of product design optimisation and a highly generalised and extended version of Job Shop Scheduling. Multi-level, multi-criteria design optimisation studies will focus around example problems provided by Rolls-Royce and British Aerospace. New scheduling techniques developed by the principal investigator will be explored. The use of coevolutionary techniques to handle a wide range of problems with multiple and possible conflicting criteria will be a powerful integrating theme running through the project. Theoretical and comparative analyses of results will be carried out.
