Summary on Grant Application Form
1. Experimental study of transition in the boundary layer over rotating compliant discs with the object of obtaining substantial drag reduction 2. Computational and theoretical study of same 3. Experimental study of travelling wave disturbance in boundary layer over rigid rotating disc 4. The acquisition of an experimental facility for further drag reduction studies (1) Finalise design and manufacture of apparatus and probe traverse. (2) Develop, manufacture and test methods for compliant discs. (3) Extend the asymptotic/numerical and boundary element methods to the compliant disc. (4) Develop software for data acquisition and analysis. (5) Flow visualisation and hot ware measurements on rigid disc. (6) Numerical study of coupled sixth order linear flow instability/ compliant wall system. (7) Develop wall displacment measuring techniques. (8) As in (5) for compliant discs. (9) Computational simulation of wave packet from point source over compliant disc.
