The main objective of the proposed programme is the development of a novel Coanda ejector blue flame burner with respect to its capacity for reducing NOx emissions. This would incorporate a detailed study of the burner and would involve the evolution of an optimum burner configuration using advanced CFD modelling. The Project will be conducted in three phases. The initial phase will consist of modelling of the Coanda ejector low Nox burner. This would involve the prediction of optimum design for construction of a prototype, incorporating the facility for changing important flow and geometrical variables.In the second phase of the Project, experiments will be conducted over a period of about 20 months to verify model predictions. The effect of fuel air mixture stoichiometry, the quantity of diluents present, fuel composition and the initial temperature of the fuel-air mixture on the performance characteristics will be investigated. Velocity, temperature and NOx profiles will be determined under various conditions. In the final phase of the programme, the experimental results will be used as a data base for testing other CFD models.
