Summary on Grant Application Form |
The present proposal is concerned with the development of an improved CFD model for the prediction of NO emissions from practical turbulent diffusion flames using a Reynolds-stress turbulence model coupled with a non-equilibrium flamelet combustion model. The theoretical predictions for thermal, fuel and prompt NO in the near-burner region will be validated by comparison with novel experimental data from a practical scale combustion facility using fuel-N doped gas-oil spray flames. The model performance will be assessed for several industrial flame types, e.g. staged and unstaged, and different burner aerodynamics. The NOx model will be extended for the prediction of NO2 emissions.
