Summary on Grant Application Form |
To develop an object-oriented technique for the storage of design intent as it evolves during the early stages of design. This will take the form of a network showing causal links between elements of the design. The network will enlarge during the design process and be maintained through into production. To develop techniques for the modelling of risk and cost uncertainty and of propagating risk and uncertainty through the information networks. Progress: A commercially available software package has been used to build a simple model of the cost uncertainty for an example of early design supplied by one of the collaborating partners. A review of the available representations of risk and uncertainty and of techniques for propagating uncertainty has been carried out. An investigation has been conducted into the ways in which the different collaborating companies approach risk at present. Work has begun on development of a software tool for the editing, browsing and simulation of a network of uncertain cost and risk data. An object-oriented CASE tool is being used for the analysis and design phases of this development.
