Summary on Grant Application Form |
Micromechanical finite element models will be developed to predict the behaviour of cross-ply, angle-ply and quasi-isotropic laminates containing damage under tension loading. Modelling of delamination will also be undertaken, using a simple ply drop-off configuration. The applicability of the models to design features will be assessed by attempting to model progression of damage in the region of a hole in a cross-ply laminate. The models will be validated against experimental data generated by other members of the LINK consortium. Parametric studies will be undertaken to understand the main parameters affecting behaviour. The finite element models will also be used to determine the range of validity of analytical models being developed as part of the LINK programme.
