Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal aims to improve on the current market capabilities by carrying out research into a compact, competitively priced, high accuracy, high speed laser transducer system. The device will be integrated to a machine and compared with laser metrology under static and dynamic conditions. The programme intends to use the IR diode laser in place of the helium neon laser to utilise its advantages and overcome its disadvantages. Acousto-optical modulation stable cavities will be produced, direct environment compensation applied and investigations to improve the cogerent length capability carried out. Novel pre-processing techniques will be utilised and cost effective methods for making components determined. Finally with the transducers applied to the machine, measuring techniques will be applied to identify time and spatial errors, and novel compensation algorithms applied to achieve correction.
