Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this project is to create and demonstrate a high level software environment to support the machinery designer. This environment will allow transparent access to a wide range of decision-making facilities, with intrinsic provision for many more. In particular, it will aid the designer to create a design specification through a facility known as the specifier, and will use constraint and truth maintenance techniques to seek and provide solutions through a resolver. The novelty in the projetct is the way in which the software environment will invoke the lower level, established technologies without direct reference to the designer. Interfacing with a wide range of analysis and other packages is made transparent within the environment.
