Summary on Grant Application Form |
The objectives of the DFM/EE project are:to characterise the design for manufacture(DFM) problem in the extended enterprise environment by studying the decisions and communications of the personnel involved in the design engineering process; and to identify appropriate current tools and technique that could be deployed and areas of work that are needed to service this emerging business environment.Design for Manufacture tools and techniques are being developed and marketed, but there were no work reported in asking the design and manufacturing personnel what they really need. In the Extended Enterprise environment, modern complex engineering products are made with participation from different specialist suppliers and subcontractors. In many cases, the product is designed without knowing who is going to make it, and where. This project aims to address the appropriate application of DFM tools in this environment.
