Summary on Grant Application Form
This application seeks support for a project intended to contribute to a programme of work on graded sediment transport at high river stage. Use will be made of the Flood Channel Facility at HR Wallingford. The experimental programme will be collaborative with the Universities of Aberdeen and Sheffield, who are making a separate application. The intention being for two RAs to work jointly on the experimental programme at HR Wallingford.Although all sediments in natural streams are graded, sediment transport prediction techniques have, until recently, been based on uniform sediment analysis. The principle aim of the proposed programme is to investigate the fraction by fraction transport rate at high stage flows in straight and meandering two-stage channels. In addition surface texture and surface grain packing will be investigated and their relationship to hydraulic roughness assessed by statistical analysis.
