Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme consists of four parts. During part one (six months), the RA will familiarise him/herself with dynamic vehicle scheduling and the collaborating operators. During part two (nine months), the RA will gather data, using knowledge acquisition techniques and applying grounded theory to the understanding of the task of demand-responsive vehicle scheduling. During part three (twelve months), the RA will apply what has been learnt to the design of an interactive decision support system, using the ROMC approach and examining the allocation of tasks between the human and computer. The early prototype will be tested in a community transport operation. During part four (three months), the prototype will be formally evaluated and refined. The early findings of the research will be disseminated at the end of part two, and the final results during and after part four.
