Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to study the interactions of organic vapours with thin films of conducting polymer films in order to determine the important factors determining the interactions and the origins of the observed conductivity changes. To do this, we will use a combination of techniques including quartz crystal microbalance measurements, UV-visible and infra-red spectroscopic studies and conductivity studies. We will investigate both the transient and steady state behaviour with the objective of developing a set of design rules to allow rational design of conducting polymers for use as odour sensors in sensor arrays.
