Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this proposal is to investigate the second order nonlinearities of semiconductor and multiple quantum well structures with a view to producing efficient all-optical switching devices. The use of cascaded second order nonlinearities for all-optical switching is currently under theoretical investigation by a number of research groups worldwide. To date very little experimental work has been reported. The proposed programme will use the existing facilities at Glasgow to establish an experimental programme based on III-V semiconductors.
