Summary on Grant Application Form |
To develop a silicon based interconnect technology incorporating integrated silicon devices and/or GaAs dropins for mm-wave planar modules.Progress: The primary aim of this work programme is to create the microwave design and fabrication technology infrastructure required for the development of low cost consumer orientated planar mm circuits. To date a number of high resistivity silicon wafers have been patterned using aluminium metallization to form a variety of coplanar waveguide CPW circuits. These circuits include CPW open and short circuits, through lines and ring resonators. These structures have been designed specifically to be on-wafer probed in order to establish primary material parameters such as dielectric loss tangent, conductor conductivity etc.The test structures have been probed up to40 GHz and line losses of 0.5-2.5 dB/cm have been found over the frequency range 10 GHz through 40 GHz. A mathematical model for the computation of individual loss constituents has been developed. The results of preliminary investigations where recently reported as below.
