Summary on Grant Application Form
The project seeks to develop a computer system to predict the time varying illuminances in spaces of complex geometry, with any form of (innovative) glazing system. The predictive accuracy will be assessed by comparison with measurements in rooms with innovative glazing. The system will enable any form of lighting system and control strategy to be incorporated. Such a system does not yet exist. The numerical predictions will be represented as animated (3 dimensional) illuminance plots. Example applications for real buildings will be produced. The system will be based around the widely used RADIANCE system and build on the concept of Daylight Co-efficients. The project buildings on De Montfort University's RADIANCE expertise, its track record in the field on validation, and its strong collaborative links with the BRE.The software will be freely available and of immense value to lighting designers, controls engineers, glazing system manufacturers, energy consultants etc.
