Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed to carry out a varied programme of computational projects in the fields of:Theory of Structural and Electronic Properties of Surfaces: including pseudopotential total energy calculations of molecular dissociation on transition metal surfaces, atomic orbital based calculations of metal oxides surfaces, both clean and with adsorbates, and development of Green's function methods for calculating STM images of oxide surfaces.Physics of Optoelectronic Nonlinearities and Devices: including dynamic modelling of high power tapered laser devices, coherent electron-photon beating under intense fields, modelling of carrier transport in nonlinear optical systems, including quantum well semiconductor waveguides and high speed semiconductor lasers.Electron Transport in Superlattices and Resonant Tunnelling Diodes: the aim here is to model recent measurements of the transmission coefficient of these structures under arbitrary bias conditions.
